Ephemeral Art and Place

Allowing the definition of art as“paying attention” and the notion that “creativity is the mind at play,” this class will emphasize the improvisational approach to working with the particularities of place. Each session will meet at a different location, where students will be challenged to create work from whatever is at hand, cobbling together serendipitous sculptures in situ. All activities will be ephemeral in nature, perpetuating only through photo/video documentation. Discussion will center on ideas/ideals of impermanence and creating in public or private space, and what this approach means in regards to a capitalist economy.
