Past Art Dinners

The Contemporary Austin's annual Art Dinner has celebrated the achievements and vision of the museum's exhibitions program and its commitment to supporting groundbreaking contemporary art and artists at both the downtown Jones Center and the Betty and Edward Marcus Sculpture Park at Laguna Gloria.

The inaugural 2014 Art Dinner celebrated the launch of the Betty and Edward Marcus Sculpture Park at Laguna Gloria and honored the Edward and Betty Marcus Foundation for its founding gift. The Art Dinner was the culminating event of the opening weekend for the exhibitions A Secret Affair: Selections from the Fuhrman Family Collection and Orly Genger: Current, and featured a special performance by musician Graham Reynolds inspired by Genger's site-specific installation.

The 2015 Art Dinner celebrated Tom Friedman’s Looking Up, a new acquisition to the Betty and Edward Marcus Sculpture Park at Laguna Gloria, as well as the opening of the exhibition Robert Therrien at the Jones Center. Musician and artist Terry Allen, whose new sound sculpture Road Angel is currently on view at the Betty and Edward Marcus Sculpture Park, shared a special performance.

The 2015 Auction featured unique, artist-created stand-up paddleboards by artists Andy Coolquitt, Liam Gillick, Jim Hodges, Roy McMakin, Angelbert Metoyer, Tom Sachs, and Marianne Vitale.

The 2016 Art Dinner recognized the hundred-year anniversary of Clara Driscoll’s 1916 Mediterranean-style villa with a garden party encompassing the Driscoll Villa and the fourteen acres of the Betty and Edward Marcus Sculpture Park. The debut of artist Ronen Sharabani's Matchbox, a site-specific outdoor and indoor video projection created for The Contemporary Austin, celebrated the Villa's centennial through a breathtaking performance.

The 2016 Auction featured works by artists Terry Allen, Anya Gallaccio, Jim Hodges, Mark Mothersbaugh, Monika Sosnowska, Sofía Táboas, and Garth Weiser.
