Visiting Lecture: Alva Noe and Lawrence Weschler

Alva Noë and Lawrence Weschler, contributors to the Strange Pilgrims exhibition catalogue, present a public conversation investigating Noë’s argument that art is a philosophical practice and philosophy an aesthetic one.

Noë is a professor of philosophy at the University of California. One of the country’s foremost philosophers of the mind, he was formerly the philosopher in residence with the William Forsythe Dance Company and is the author, most recently, of Strange Tools: Art and Human Nature.

Weschler was a longtime writer for The New Yorker and is the author of Seeing Is Forgetting the Name of the Thing One Sees, the seminal biography of artist Robert Irwin, and Mr. Wilson’s Cabinet of Wonder, about Los Angeles’s Museum of Jurassic Technology, among other books.

The authors will be signing copies of the Strange Pilgrims exhibition catalogue, Noë's Strange Tools: Art and Human Nature, and Weschler's Seeing Is Forgetting the Name of the Thing One Sees, with copies of all three books available for purchase, with a discount for Members.
